Corredor cultural mulher potiguar: anteprojeto de um centro de cultura, memória e estudos da mulher em área de valor histórico-patrimonial em Natal/RN

Abstract

Women represents the largest portion of Brazilian society. However due to the different social roles adopted by men and women they are invisible in the public space, whether it has a political or urban meaning. The absence of spaces that materialize and publicize women's struggles, contributions and advances ultimately reinforces their anonymity as a social category in history. In contemporary projects of urban public spaces, there is an attempt to reverse this situation and, although not yet sufficient, the variable "sex" has been introduced in the field of architecture and urbanism, enabling the creation of environments that consider the particularities of the female experience. Realizing the lack of spaces dedicated to women’s struggles and achievements, as well as a design taking into account their needs, this work consists of creating the developed design of a cultural project to house the socio-cultural and historical heritage of women under a gender perspective. Considering that this type of cultural use is usually installed in the city centers, in a belief in conservation of historical heritage, and the fact that the historical centers have a relatively consolidated urban structure, it was decided to install it in the Ribeira neighborhood, Natal, RN. Thus, this work aims to develop a draft proposal for a Center for Culture, Memory and Women's Studies in an area of historical-heritage value in light of the gender perspective. To this end, we sought to understand the impact of gender relations on the use of space by women; gather the legal and physical functional attributes of Ribeira bringing vitality and diversity to the neighborhood; and identify the particulars of the necessary program and spatial constraints of cultural equipment.
