Ilha Bela, espaços da recordação: entre ruínas, memórias e o direito de narrar (Ceará-Mirim, 2002-2022)

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the memory that has been constructed about a community that is in the process of ruin, Ilha Bela, located in the rural area of the city of Ceará-Mirim, which is part of the metropolitan region of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. North. More specifically, the study analyzed here starts from the memories of the reminiscent of Ilha Bela in the present time, the time of the ruins, having as the main source of analysis for the research the book of memories written by a reminiscent of the space of Ilhabela, Mr. Francisco Canindé Dias. The community went into ruination in the 1990s, when its last residents were forced to leave their homes, which were then demolished, leaving only the ruins of the sugar mill building, which was the economic base of the population of Ilhabela and part important part of sugar production in the city of Ceará-Mirim. From the 1990s onwards, when the houses were demolished, the group of reminiscent people who experienced the place in the time when the plant still produced and served as an employment bond felt the need to continue to meet to recall the years of practice and experience in the place that is part of their life stories. The meetings of ex-residents of Ilha Bela began in 2002, and since then they have been held every year, in December, bringing together individuals who now live in different states of the country. The meetings enabled the writing of Mr. Days based on his memories and the collective remembrances that take place every year in the meetings of former residents of Ilha Bela. The book composes the main sources analyzed in this study on the memories of Ilha Bela in the present time and the memories that have been built over the years in the annual meetings and that serve as a representation object for the group that persists in remembering the space.
