Análise de representações textual-discursivas em "O processo do capitão Dreyfus" - primeiro capítulo de "Cartas de Inglaterra" de Rui Barbosa

Abstract

The thesis “Analysis of textual-discoursive representations in „Captain Dreyfus‟ process‟, first chapter of Rui Barbosa‟s „Letters from England‟” investigates and describes the linguistical phenomenon of the textual-discursive representations (TDR) in the context of its argumentation. Three questions are proposed: what is the role of predication and other analysis categories in the construction of a textual-discursive representation? 2) How the analogies perform a constructive and argumentative role in the TDR‟s referencing? 3) What is the lexicon‟s importance in the TDR‟s construction and argumentation? To seek the answers for such inquiries, this study aims to describe and interpret the phenomenon of TRD in its argumentativity in the text “O processo do capitão Dreyfus” of Rui Barbosa. 1) Identify the role of predication and other analysis categories in the construction of TDR, 2) identify and describe the argumentative role of analogies in referencing, 3) interpret the role of the léxicon in the argumentation and construction of TDR. The research‟s perspective is situated within the greater area of Text Linguistic, specifically the theory of the “co(n)textual meaning production” according to the understanding of the Textual Analysis of Discourse introduced by Adam (2011). The Textual Analysis of Discourse is a theorical proposition that is centred on the perspective of “a theory of co(n)textual production of meaning formulated on the analysis of concrete texts”. The methodology of the research was based on a qualitative approach with a basic nature, and was descriptive in relation to the objectives and the bibliographical procedures. The methodology was made effective with the identification of the TDR-enunciations, collected from the corpus and disposed in Chart 9. The text was stablished, its lines were counted and a text plan was attributed following the textual themes; then, a chart was created, in which were indicated the textual marks for each category of analysis. The analysis proceeded descriptively and the predications, besides being descripted, were schematized. In the results, Chart 13 presents numerical data in the analysed themes concerning the quantity of the 50 excerpts studied. It was verified that there are 11 TDRs more than there are excerpts; there are 38 TDRs related to Dreyfus and 23 regarding the degradation ceremony. Chart 17 brings the information of both themes when it comes to the categories of analysis: 58 references, 63 predications, 39 modifications of the referent, 14 modifications of the predication, 18 localizations of space, 13 localizations of time and 50 modulizations. In Chart 18, Dreyfus is the “agent” 3 times and in 36 times he‟s the patient. In Chart 19, the degradation ceremony appears 8 times as the agent/subject and 8 times as patient. The results were organised based on the fulfilment of the goals established by the research. Therefore, it‟s been noted that there is specification of predication, referencing and modification and also the deepening of the typology of the predicators, names and modifiers. New taxonomy given to the referencing attached analogies, pronouns, ellipsis and indirect referencing. In the subject of the referent‟s modification, the types of modifiers were amplified and the modification was classified as epithetic and attributive. It was concluded that the predication is the generatrix of the other textual operations, that the analogies amplified the textual figures, that the lexicon was determinant in the TDR construction as much by its signification as by the meaning employed in the text.
