SOL, PEDRAS E PUNHAIS: O ESPAÇO IMAGÉTICO DO CANGAÇO NA DRAMATURGIA POTIGUAR

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the imagetic space of the cangaço in Potiguar dramaturgy. To this end, we will explore the anthology De Sol, de Pedras e Punhais (2007) by the renowned playwright, poet, and journalist from Rio Grande do Norte, Racine Santos (1948). Through three plays, we will investigate the space that permeates the Northeastern, particularly Potiguar, imagination concerning the structures that define the cangaço. These themes evoke complex discussions about Northeastern identity and social banditry. For this purpose, the works of Durval Muniz, A Invenção do Nordeste (2011), and Luiz Bernardo Pericás, Os Cangaceiros: Ensaio de Interpretação Histórica (2010), will guide us toward a more objective study, while acknowledging the subjective nature of these topics.
