Limbic encephalitis (LE) is the most common manifestation. Anti-Ma2 LE can also be manifested as a pure psychiatric disturbance associated or not with hypokinesia. Other patients exhibit excessive daytime sleepiness, vertical ophthalmoparesis, or both associated with LE, due to diencephalic and/or upper brainstem involvement. Methods: We describe the interictal electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings of 47 children born with ZIKV-derived microcephaly. EEGs were recorded in the first year of life and correlated with brain morphology. In 31 subjects, we tested the association between computed tomography (CT) findings and interictal epileptiform discharges (IED). In eighteen, CTs were used for correlating volumetric measurements of the brainstem, cerebellum, and prosencephalon with the rate of IED. Findings: Twenty-nine out of 47 (62%) subjects were diagnosed as having epilepsy. Those subjects presented epileptiform discharges, including unilateral interictal spikes (26/29, 90%), bilateral synchronous and asynchronous interictal spikes (21/29, 72%), and hypsarrhythmia (12/29, 41%). Interestingly, 58% of subjects with clinical epilepsy were born with rhombencephalon malformations, while none of the subjects without epilepsy showed macroscopic abnormalities in this region. The presence of rhombencephalon malformation was associated with epilepsy (odds ratio of 34; 95% CI: 2 - 654). Also, the presence of IED was associated with smaller brain volumes. Age-corrected total brain volume was inversely correlated with the rate of IED during sleep. Finally, 11 of 44 (25%) subjects presented sleep spindles. We observed an odds ratio of 0·25 (95% CI: 0·06 - 1·04) for having sleep spindles given the IED presence. Interpretation: The findings suggest that certain CT imaging features are associated with an increased likelihood of developing epilepsy, including higher rates of IED and impaired development of sleep spindles, in the first year of life of CZVS subjectsDissertação Desenvolvimento da Plataforma NeuroRad, para arquivamento de casos clínicos de neurorradiologia voltados ao ensino e aprendizagem a distância(Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, 2020-12-17) Moreira Neto, Manuel; Godeiro Júnior, Clécio de Oliveira; ; http://lattes.cnpq.br/6861574542099266; ; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3724352607685697; Carrete Júnior, Henrique; ; http://lattes.cnpq.br/5188994792346007; Diniz Júnior, José; ; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7913193754933633O presente trabalho teve como objetivo principal elaborar uma plataforma digital para arquivamento e compartilhamento, na internet, de imagens radiológicas de casos clínicos de patologias neurológicas, apresentados pelos residentes da Radiologia e discutidos nas reuniões semanais do setor de Neurorradiologia do serviço de Diagnóstico por Imagem do Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes – HUOL/UFRN – os quais refletem a epidemiologia do nosso estado e região, sendo essa plataforma voltada para o ensino a distância e pesquisa. A ferramenta foi desenvolvida em parceria com a equipe de programadores do Laboratório de Inovação Tecnológica em Saúde da UFRN (LAIS-UFRN), com apoio de um profissional de Pedagogia, tendo sido denominada NeuroRad. Essa plataforma está hospedada em um servidor próprio da rede de computadores do Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes e será disponibilizada on-line, com acesso livre aos usuários na internet, como fonte de aprendizado dos alunos de graduação, Médicos Residentes e Preceptores da Radiologia, Neurologia, Neurocirurgia, Pediatria e Infectologia do HUOL, bem como para os demais médicos e outros profissionais de saúde que se interessarem pelo tema. Os casos clínicos de neuroimagem já apresentados nas reuniões dos últimos anos estão sendo selecionados para arquivamento na plataforma, e semanalmente novos casos serão publicados pelos Residentes de Radiologia sob a supervisão deste pesquisador. Além disso, os usuários Médicos Residentes, ou Especialistas de outros serviços ou instituições de ensino, poderão se cadastrar como usuário colaborador e submeter seus casos de neuroimagem, os quais serão avaliados pelo administrador e, após homologação, publicados com a identificação dos respectivos autores. Espera-se que esse instrumento: a) possa garantir a perenidade de um acervo de casos clínicos com imagens neurológicas do nosso hospital e instituições parceiras do estado do RN; b) que a participação ativa dos residentes da Radiologia do HUOL, na publicação semanal de casos, seja um estímulo ao seu aprendizado e desenvolvimento das suas habilidades na arte da interpretação das imagens neurorradiológicas e, c) que a disponibilização da Plataforma NeuroRad, para acesso livre na internet, seja mais uma significativa fonte de consulta para os usuários que buscam o aprendizado on-line sobre esse tema.Artigo Hemorrhagic stroke and COVID-19 infection: coincidence or causality?(Elsevier, 2020-12) Godeiro Junior, Clécio de Oliveira; Freire, Mariana; Moreira Neto, Manuel; Fraiman, Pedro Henrique Almeida; 0000-0002-4312-1633Amyloid Protein Precursor gene duplication is a rare cause of early-onset Alzheimer's disease that can be associated with Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy. This condition predisposes cerebrovascular events, specifically, intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke. A physical examination revealed spastic ataxia without peripheral involvement. The patient worked with car battery solutions for 40 years, until 13 years ago.1 He had several hospitalizations due to acute lead poisoning, with levels of lead in the blood and urinary delta-aminolevulinic acid of 162,8 g/dl and 20 mg/U (normal: up to 40 g/dl and 4,5 mg/U) respectively). Recent brain neuroimages showed typical findings of saturnism,2 with normal bone profile blood tests. Visual agnosia was noticed after blood pressure oscillations, during immunoglobulin therapy for suspected autoimmune encephalitis.
