Artigo Effects of solvent dols on the synthesis of ZnFe2O4 particles and their use as heterogeneous photo-fenton catalysts(Materials, 2014-09-03) Chiavone Filho, Osvaldo; Anchieta, Chayene Gonçalves; Cancelier, Adriano; Mazutti, Marcio Antonio; Jahn, Sérgio Luiz; Kuhn, Raquel Cristine; Gündel, Andre; Foletto, Edson LuizA solvothermal method was used to prepare zinc ferrite spinel oxide (ZnFe2O4) using ethylene glycol and 1,4 butanediol as solvent diols, and the influence of diols on the physical properties of ZnFe2O4 particles was investigated. The produced particles were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nitrogen adsorption isotherms, and the catalytic activity for the organic pollutant decomposition by heterogeneous photo-Fenton reaction was investigated. Both solvents produced particles with cubic spinel structure. Microporous and mesoporous structures were obtained when ethylene glycol and 1,4 butanediol were used as diols, respectively. A higher pore volume and surface area, as well as a higher catalytic activity for the pollutant degradation were found when 1,4 butanediol was used as solventArtigo Synthesis of ternary zinc spinel oxides and their applicationin the photodegradation of organic pollutant(Elsevier, 2014-04) Chiavone Filho, Osvaldo; Anchieta, Chayene Gonçalves; Sallet, Daniela; Foletto, Edson Luiz; Silva, Syllos Santos da; Nascimento, Cláudio Augusto Oller doTernary zinc spinel oxides such as Zn2SnO4, ZnAl2O4and ZnFe2O4were synthesized and characterized, and their activities in thephotodegradation of phenol molecules were investigated. Zn2SnO4, ZnAl2O4and ZnFe2O4powders were synthesized by hydrothermal, metal–chitosan complexation and solvothermal routes, respectively. The face-centered cubic spinel structure of each material was confirmed by powderX-ray diffractometry (XRD) and its porous structure by N2adsorption–desorption isotherms. The characterization of spinels was complementedwith Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-raysfluorescence (XRF), revealing the formation of spinel structures with high purity. The photocatalytic activity in the degradation of phenol was observed only with Zn2SnO4oxide. Mineralization degree of phenol molecules byZn2SnO4photocatalyst determined by total organic carbon analysis (TOC) reached 80% at 360 min under sunlight.&2013 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.
